The Volkl Gotama of 2010 has changed considerably from the Gotama of years past, but skiers who appreciate this wide big mountain ski will find that there’s still a lot to like. In 2010, Volkl gave the Gotama what many are calling the “perfect” amount of progressive rocker. When placed on a flat surface, the Gotama’s tip rises progressively from the frontmost binding (an “early rise” design) that keeps the tips pointed up and rising above deep snow.
While the Gotama has a considerable amount of sidecut for such a wide ski, many testers said that it wasn’t very quick edge to edge and not great on firm snow. It slices through mashed potatoes and crud with ease, though.
VOLKL GOTAMA REVIEW // WHO IT’S FOR
The Gotama is a great choice for expert skiers who frequent deep powder and don’t encounter a lot of ice. It’s handling on heavy and wet snow makes it a great choice for the Northwest.

VOLKL GOTAMA REVIEW // WHAT THEY SAID
“A solid ski with awesome flotation – as simple as that.”
“The turning is a little sloppy on groomers, but that isn’t what these skis are made for. They are a blast in deep snow, and the construction is bombproof. Typical Volkl.”
