The Salomon Shogun is a real “show” in many ways. From the topsheet design that has garnered quite a bit of attention to the technology inside – a bamboo core with a layer of basalt stone that gives it a unique and variable stiffness, this is a revoloutionary ski. But how does it perform out on the hill?
By all accounts, pretty well. It’s a wide and stable yet responsive big mountain ski that has just the right combination of dampened stiffness and a sidecut that makes it a versatile turner on groomed terrain. The subtly rockered tip wasn’t noticed much by most of our reviewers – in deep snow, it didn’t seem to be that big of a help (it’s a very subtle upturn), but it didn’t hinder performance at high speeds on harder snow.

SALOMON SHOGUN // WHAT THEY SAID
“Surprisingly fun on groomers, but keeps up just fine in deep snow.”
“Really different from other Salomon skis I’ve tried. These are on my short list of possible every day skis.”
